And the Sabbath having passed,
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome
bought spices so that coming they might anoint him.
And very early on the first day of the week
they come upon the tomb, as the sun was rising.
And they said to each other, "Who will roll
the stone away from the door of the tomb for us?"
And looking up they see that the stone has been rolled back;
For it was extremely big.
And entering into the tomb they saw a youth
sitting on the right dressed in a white robe,
and they were amazed.
But he says to them, "Do not be alarmed;
you are looking for Jesus the crucified Nazarene;
he was raised; he is not here;
look at the place where they laid him.
But go tell his disciples and Peter
that he is leading you into Galilee;
there you will see him, just as he told you."
And going out they fled from the tomb,
for they had trembling and bewilderment;
and they did not tell anyone anything;
for they were afraid.
And after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the grave.
And look, a big earthquake occurred;
for an angel of the Lord coming down from heaven
and approaching rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
And his appearance was like lightning,
and his clothing was white as snow.
And from fear of him those keeping watch
were shaken and became like the dead.
And the angel answering said to the women,
"Do not be afraid;
for I know that you are looking for the crucified Jesus;
he is not here; for he was raised just as he said;
come see the place where he lay.
And proceeding quickly tell his disciples
that he was raised from the dead,
and look, he is leading you into Galilee;
there you will see him.
Look, I have told you."
And going away quickly from the tomb
with fear and great joy they ran to report to his disciples.
And on the first day of the week very early in the morning
they came upon the tomb
bringing the spices which they had prepared.
And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
but entering they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it happened while they were confused about this
that look, two men stood by them in gleaming clothing;
and as they became frightened
and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them,
"Why are you looking for the living with the dead?
He is not here, but he was raised.
Remember how he spoke to you while he was still in Galilee,
saying, 'The human son must be given over
into the hands of sinful people and be crucified
and on the third day rise up.'"
And they remembered his sayings,
and returning from the tomb they reported all these things
to the eleven and to all the rest.
And it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna
and Mary the mother of James
and the rest of the women with them
who told these things to the apostles.
And these sayings seemed to them like nonsense,
and they disbelieved them.
On the first day of the week early in the morning
while it was still dark Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb,
and she sees the stone taken from the tomb.
So she hurries and comes to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved,
and says to them, "They took the Lord out of the tomb,
and we don't know where they put him."
So Peter and the other disciple went out,
and they came to the tomb.
And the two hurried together;
and the other disciple ran ahead quicker than Peter
and came to the tomb first,
and bending over he sees the bandages lying there,
though he did not go in.
So Simon Peter also comes following him,
and he went into the tomb;
and he sees the bandages lying there,
and the handkerchief, which had been on his head,
was not with the bandages lying there
but had been folded up separately in one place.
So then the other disciple who had come to the tomb first
also entered the tomb, and he saw and believed;
for they did not yet know the scripture,
that he must rise up from the dead.
So the disciples went away again to their homes.
And rising up early in the morning
on the first day of the week
he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,
from whom he had expelled seven demons.
She proceeding reported to those who had been with him
who were mourning and weeping;
and those hearing that he was alive
and was seen by her disbelieved.
But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping.
So as she was weeping, she bent over into the tomb,
and she sees two angels in white sitting,
one at the head and one at the feet,
where the body of Jesus had lain.
And those say to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She says to them, "They took my Lord,
and I don't know where they put him."
Saying these things she turned around,
and she sees Jesus standing,
and she did not know that it was Jesus.
Jesus says to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?
Who are you looking for?"
She thinking that it was the gardener,
says to him, "Lord, if you carried him away,
tell me where you put him, and I will take him."
Jesus says to her, "Mary."
She turning says to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni"
(which means Teacher).
Jesus says to her, "Do not hold on to me,
for I have not yet ascended to the Father;
but proceed to my brothers and tell them:
I am ascending to my Father and your Father
and my God and your God."
Mary Magdalene goes announcing to the disciples,
"I have seen the Lord,"
and that he had told her these things.
And look, Jesus met the women saying, "Hello."
And approaching they grabbed his feet and worshipped him.
Then Jesus says to them, "Do not be afraid;
go report to my brothers
so that they may go away to Galilee,
and there they will see me."
And as they were proceeding,
look, some of the guard coming into the city
reported to the high priests everything that had happened.
And assembling with the elders and forming a plan
they gave considerable silver to the soldiers, saying,
"Say: 'His disciples coming at night
stole him while we were sleeping.'
And if this is heard by the governor,
we will persuade him and keep you out of trouble."
And taking the silver they did as they were taught.
And this account has been spread by the Jews even to this day.
